Synopsis:

A client PC is running Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 with User Account Control disabled.  When attempting to view a report, the Crystal Reports ActiveX viewer fails to install despite repeated attempts.  Internet Explorer may prompt to install "Crystal Report ActiveX Viewer Control" multiple times.  A red X is displayed in the upper left of the browser window.  In the "Windows\Downloaded Program Files" directory, multiple CONFLICT directories may be created.

More Information:

Turning User Account Control off in Windows 7 prevents successful automatic installation of  the Crystal Reports ActiveX viewer.

Upgrading to ReCrystallize Pro version 14 or later and using ASP.NET is recommended.
Follow the steps below to resolve this issue using classic ASP with your current ReCrystallize Pro version.

We recommend that all users encountering installation issues with the Crystal Reports ActiveX viewer migrate to ASP.NET using ReCrystallize Pro Web Wizard for Crystal Reports version 14 or later.

The .NET based web viewer will allow viewing Crystal Reports in almost any web browser - including iPhone, iPad, and Android devices - without requiring any browser add-ons.

Try it - click here to see sample reports using the .NET viewer in your browser now.

Solution 1:

Set User Account Control to the default/recommended setting in Windows 7.  It may be necessary to reboot for this change to take effect.

If possible, add your web server to Internet Explorer's Trusted Sites zone.  This will eliminate multiple prompts to install the ActiveX viewer objects.

In Internet Explorer, browse to a web page to view a report using the ActiveX viewer.  If the web server is not in Internet Explorer's Trusted Sites zone, Internet Explorer will prompt several times to install the required objects.  In this case, it may be necessary to reload the page or go back to a previous page and click the link to the report page multiple times in order to install all components and view the report.

After the ActiveX viewer is successfully installed and the report is displayed, you may turn off User Account Control if desired.  Reports will continue to display properly in the ActiveX viewer.

Solution 2:

1.  Purchase the ActiveX Viewer manual installer below or purchase ReCrystallize Pro
ReCrystallize Pro customers with a current Software Updates option and/or ReCrystallize ReSolutions tech support package may request this file at no cost.

2. Download the ActiveX Viewer 11.5 manual installation MSI file using the link provided by email.

3. Run the MSI file to install the required version 11.5 ActiveX viewer DLLs to the "Windows\Download Program Files" folder and register the DLLs.

4. If possible, add your web server to Internet Explorer's Trusted Sites zone.  This will eliminate multiple prompts to install the ActiveX viewer objects.

6. After the ActiveX viewer is successfully installed and the report is displayed, you may turn off User Account Control if desired.  Reports will continue to display properly in the ActiveX viewer.
